Microwave induced catalysis

Application of microwave heating to heterogeneous catalysis reactions has not been explored intensively due to presence of metals in supported catalysts and possibility of arcing phenomena in the presence of flammable solvents. However, this scenario becomes unlikely using nanoparticle-sized metal catalysts. We have investigated a variety of different catalyst systems under microwave initiation using metals other than iron (typically nickel and cobalt); we also conducted experiments using FeAlOx with varying iron content as well as experiments with iron-based catalysts on varying support materials. We find that … Meer weergeven The one-step microwave-initiated process substantially simplifies approaches to the catalytic deconstruction of plastic waste (Fig. 1b), … Meer weergeven Carbon nanotubes are almost the sole solid product from these processes.
