You will normally hear the noise only when the engine is running and you press or depress the brake pedal. Webb4 sep. 2011 · Once you stop the engine, wait for the hissing to stop. At that point the brake pedal should be rock hard. If it is hard, it's because the hissing sound was all the vacuum leaking out. Normally, the booster will hold vacuum for hours and the pedal will feel fairly normal for hours after the engine stops.
