I was thinking of getting a quiet set of timing gears to replace the current ones (for this coming winters "pull engine and clean it up and repaint" project). WebSep 26, 2010 · I installed gears with a HQ-0034G cam 30,000+ miles ago. Did not notice any noise increase with the gears. A suggestion if you go with the new chain set up. Take a scotch brite pad and polish the backs of the chains till they are super smooth. That will solve most of your tensioner wear problems.
