Normandy is famous for its stunning steep coasts and seemingly endless beaches. You will follow the Grand Route 223 along the peninsula of Cherbourg. Many little coastal towns and French savoir vivre add to the charm of this tour.
Three days are spent on the Channel island of Jersey, famous for the unique mix of English and French culture. Large beaches, hidden coves, marvellous sand dunes and stunning cliffs are found on the shore of the island. The character varies according to season, with a wealth of ever changing colours.

Day to Day Itinerary

 

Day 1

Individual journey to Pontorson

Little village Pontorson lies on the border between the two provinces Normandy and Bretagne, about 9 km from the bay of Mont Saint-Michel.

Day 2

Pontorson – Mont Saint-Michel

Walk along the Cousnon river to the bay of Mont Saint-Michel. Cross pretty villages and visit a mill. Mont Saint-Michel is a fortified village situated on an island. On the top of a rock escarpment a monastery inhabited by a dozen monks is situated. You stay overnight on the island and can enjoy the special atmosphere and tranquillity. Walking time: approx. 3 to 4 hrs.

Day 3

Mont Saint-Michel – Dol-de-Bretagne

After crossing the marshes west of Couesnon river you leave the Normandy for the Bretagne. You walk through green undulating landscape, dotted with little houses and grazing cattle to the pretty villages Roz-sur-Couesnon and Sainte-Broladre. Overnight in Dol-de-Bretagne. The half timbered houses belong to the best maintained examples of the Bretagne. Walking time: approx. 5.5 to 6 hrs

Day 4

Dol-de-Bretagne – Cancale

The first interesting point of today is Mont-Dol with beautiful old church. Then you follow an oyster-park for several kilometres. The last 5 km to Cancale offer superb views across the bay. You stay overnight in a hotel on the port. Cancale enjoys the reputation of being the capital of oyster, „Huîtres“. It is said that the local oysters are the best and freshest – judge for yourself. Walking time: approx. 4.5 to 5 hrs.

Day 5

Cancale – Jersey

Take a morning walk to the headland Grouin. It is quite possible that you will encounter seals and dolphins. A transfer brings you to Sain-Malo to catch the ferry to the island Jersey to St. Helier. There you set out to the pretty, tranquil Bouley Bay, where you will stay for the next nights. Walking time: approx. 2 to 3 hrs.

Day 6

Round trip to Port of Rozel

Walk to Rozel through Bouley Bay with stunning panorama views over the port, bay and sea. The higher you climb the more beautiful the views. There are some steep ascents to tackle. Pretty harbour Rozel with old granite cottages invites to stop for a lunch break. Walking time: approx. 4 hrs. 

Day 7

Round trip to the bay of Grève de Lecq

Follow the coast into the opposite direction to the bay of Grève de Lecq, one of the prettiest coves of the island, inviting you to take a swim. Today the tour is less strenuous and there are several options to return to the hotel.

 

Day 8

Individual departure or extra days.

Take the ferry from Jersey to Saint-Malo and continue your journey home.

Relaxed walking on good walking trails. Daily distances of up to 5 hours and gentle hills only. We presume that you are in good health and have enough endurance for distances of up to 15 km.
