Day 1
Bulgaria – an emerging country with many contrasts: On the one hand, donkey and horse carts accompany us through the countryside. On the other hand, we see the vibrant business life of the cities. Wonderful hotels in an idyllic landscape, an unspoiled natural countryside with a diverse flora and fauna, and many sights and attractions accompany us on our tour. The Bulgarian climate and its mineral springs already attracted the hedonistic Romans.
Fertile plains and ancient mountain ranges such as the Balkans run through the whole country to the Black Sea. The Sredna Gora Mountains can be found in the central part of Bulgaria, between the Balkan Mountains and the Thracian plain. The Rhodope Mountains form a huge labyrinth of mountains, valleys, and canyons. In the Orthodox monasteries, there are beautiful paintings of the Byzantine era. In extensive caves, we can find evidences of prehistoric times, and in the cities, we will see magnificent Renaissance facades..

Arrival in Sofia.
Transfer from the airport/train station to the hotel. The capital of Bulgaria has about 1.1 million inhabitants and looks back onto a 7,000-year-old history. Already the Romans left behind their architectural traces in the city of Sofia. Whole urban ensembles preserved the style around the turn of the century.

Day 2
Sofia-Ribaritza approx. 45km.
The day will start with a two-hour city tour. Then, transfer by bus to the monastery Glozhene (the monastery, built in the 13th century, is located on a mountain and looks like a fairytale castle from the distance) and lunch. Bike tour to Ribaritza.

Afterwards, we will continue our tour by bus to Hissarja (approx. 2.5 hours). At the foot of the Sredna Gora Mountains, today’s health resort Hissarja, with its more than 20 mineral springs, a mild climate, and a rich cultural and historical past, is located. In Roman times, the city was called Augusta and was already been a famous spa.

On both sides of the Evros River and on 6 stone hills lies the world-famous, listed old town of Plovdiv. The Roman Stadium, the ancient amphitheatre, valuable mosaics, and the pretty houses from the period of the Bulgarian Renaissance are well preserved.
Day 6
Plovdiv-Devin approx. 50km
The day will start with a visit the monastery Bachkovo (the great monastery building and the beautiful church architecture prove the high skill of its builders) and the stone bridges (beautiful huge rock formations).
